for everyone

Me in the autumn of 83 and the autumn of '84

In 1983 I began having weight problems for the first time in my life. The above photos were taken a year apart to the day. In a year I went from 180 pounds (81.64 k) to 295 (133.81 k) while eating much less food. This is because in late 1983 I was hit hard by an illness known as Myalgic Encephalomyalitis and have been vigorously fighting it ever since.

Since then my weight has gone up and down (a little). About three weeks ago I decided it was time to drastically reduce and I'm happy to announce that as of today I've lost 21 pounds (9.52 k). My goal is to keep going until I'm under 200 pounds (90.7 k) again. That's another 50 US pounds or 22.6 kilograms.

Me Dec of '07

Your continued prayers and good wishes are requested.

Peace,

~John of AllFaith

Losing weight is tough, regardless. So, what are you doing--a combination of diet and exercise?

Thank you for sharing your story and your photos. I will go investigate Myalgic Encephalomyalitis. While I was a nurse in neurology, I have never heard of that. Seems I should know about it.

I have no excuses. I love to eat, and I love to mostly eat sweet sugary things.

Please tell me how you are doing this? thanks.

That is an amazing accomplishment! Congratulations!

Thanks all.
Tiquern, in the US (CDC) the illness is usually called Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS). You will doubtless know it by that name. As that name is both inaccurate and misleading many of us go by the name used in virtually every other country, Myalgic Encephalomyalitis. Cher has it, Bea Arthur has it, Gilda Radnar had it (as discussed in the book What Really Killed Gilda Radnar)... lots of people do. The modern outbreak began in Incline Village Nev. I got sick about three years after it first hit (and live four hours or so from Incline Village). Now it is a global syndrome. It mainly hits women for some reason, although lots of men have it too. It is a very nasty illness that thus far tests negative in most research, although they are now finding some tale-tale signs. Its basically a cross between MS and Lupis as far as symptoms go.

I am mainly fasting. My normal daily meals:

I wake up to 2 cups of coffee (a big mug) and either a granola bar or a small bowl of oatmeal (with a touch of Splenda).

Around 5 or 6 I have a small salad or another granola bar.

That's about it. And lots of water.

Not the healthiest diet in the world but it works.

the book What Really Killed Gilda Radnar.......... sounds interesting, and if I can stay awake long enough to read it, I will. Thanks for the info, and you're right.........have heard of it!

The diet seems extreme, but if it's working and you're happy and healthy........good! I'm working on a version of my own........when I do START! lol

Take care....Thanks again.

{{{John}}} Congrats on your success. Like everything else, personal health management is a one-day-at-a-time affair. Some days are better than others, of course. It appears you've been having a good streak. ;oD

Mental health [sic] professionals have long espoused that the beneficial behaviors in which people engage manifest themselves in a positive manner both internally (emotionally/mentally/spiritually) and externally (physically).

Two minutes later... Guess what, John? Right now allfaith.com ranks first page on Google for a targeted search of "Myalgic Encephalomyalitis". How cool is that? Hey- have you been studying SEO/SEM on the sly? **giggling**

Two more pounds yippie!

The book on Gilda is a little dry to me, but an interesting read anyway.

AllFaith.com has been around so long, now in my 11th year, that I'm often surprised (and grateful) by my generally good search engine listings and ratings. I just use key words but a lot of people link to me under various topics. That helps a lot.

I still host two CFIDS/FMS/ME Yahoo groups (my illness related webring is defunct) but most of the info about the illness on my site is way out of date so I'm surprised by that rating.

My CFIDS/ME lists:

And
